Make a difference in this year’s SIS Spirit Fund

SIS has had an annual fund since October 2019. An annual fund is a way for everyone to get involved in supporting the school, and every year we raise money to support key projects within three focus areas; student experience, academic excellence and innovation, and campus regeneration. Funds are raised, and made to work, on an annual basis. This means that everything raised this academic year will be invested immediately.

We call our annual fund The Spirit Fund and so far we have been able to successfully support:

  • the Nepal Project at Shila Devi
  • starting the journey of introducing MakerSpace materials to encourage creativity and innovation and
  • investing in lighting equipment for the auditorium

The Makerspace Project

Technology Integrator Mmamotlhabi Tlailane and Library Media Specialist Katalin Pongo came up with an idea to innovate the library space to further improve SIS’s learning environment. They had a vision to start a Learner Commons, where students could use their hands and minds to solve challenges, create their own knowledge, contemplate real-world problems, and reflect on these experiences in a continual circle of learning. Children benefiting from The Nepal Project

The vision of the SIS Nepal Project is to see a strong, healthy educational environment develop in the Shila Devi primary school in Nepal. The project also helps SIS students expand their understanding of the world and develop their sense of international mindedness. Over the years, SIS Community Members have supported the students with food, shoes, the school has received solar panels as well as salary for the 2 teachers working there. Auditorium upgrade

The auditorium in the main building is probably one of the most used spaces at the school! Besides hosting students for lunch, it’s also used for a number of different community events such as the Halloween party, disco parties for primary school, SPC GM:s, International Day, the States of the school events and much more.

It is therefore very important to make sure the equipment is continuously updated and this time we were able to update the lighting equipment thanks to the generosity of the SIS Community members.
