Welcoming new families
Happy at school. Happy at home. Happy in a new city. At SIS, we believe these experiences belong together — and when they do, Stockholm quickly feels like home.
Moving abroad is a big step for any family, so we focus on far more than academics. From the moment families arrive, SIS and the SIS Parent Community (SPC) work together to help everyone feel welcomed, supported, and connected. We don’t just enrol students — we welcome entire families.
The school year begins with our annual Welcome Event, a lively celebration filled with conversation, laughter, and new connections. Students meet classmates and reconnect with friends, parents explore the school and meet teachers, and families begin friendships that often last for years. The atmosphere is warm, international, and unmistakably welcoming.
The SPC plays an important role in helping families settle into life at SIS and in Sweden. Through the popular SPC Buddy System, new families are paired with experienced SIS families who offer local advice, practical support, and a friendly face during those first weeks. From navigating Stockholm to understanding Swedish traditions, families quickly feel part of a caring community.
SIS also works closely with relocation specialists and global recruitment organisations to support a smooth transition to Stockholm. When students feel happy and confident at school, families settle in faster — and creating that sense of belonging is at the heart of everything we do.
