Catherine (Cathy) McNulty
Catherine places strong importance in the partnership between teacher and parent in the early years setting. She is one of our Positive Discipline Workshop Facilitators and enjoys working together with parents throughout the school.
Catherine’s core belief is the importance of play in the early childhood years and believes that children learn best through play that is facilitated in a nurturing and educational environment. This belief has been shaped through her own education and experiences. As a parent and an educator, she has sat on both sides of the table during special education meetings.
Cathy completed her undergraduate degree from Illinois State University with certification to teach birth through grade 8 and endorsements in special education through grade 3 and mathematics for grades 6 – 8. For 11 years, she taught preKindergarten (early years 4) in a small suburb outside of Chicago. During that time she completed a masters program in Curriculum and Instruction with Northern Illinois University. She also worked together with the special education team to develop an inclusion program for preschool students.
Cathy began working at SIS in August of 2020. She enjoys working in an international community and marvels at the development of the English language in young children. Cathy believes that the core of a solid education program is the well-being of all involved (teachers, parents, and students).
Outside of school, Cathy enjoys rock climbing, hiking, camping, ice skating and practicing yoga.
