The vast majority of our Diploma Programme graduates go on to study at University. For them, and for those who might be contemplating direct entry to a working career, SIS has a dedicated counsellor to help them make the best choices and to guide them at this crucial decision-making time.
University and Careers
A structured programme is in place for grades 10 through 12 in the Upper School. This programme begins by raising general awareness of students to the options that are available to them and, over time, deepens their understanding and cultivates the skills needed to pursue effective applications. It also provides one-to-one guidance tailored to individual needs. The process also helps students who are uncertain about their preferences to discover their own preferences and motivations. Parents are able to stay informed throughout.
Grade 10
Our Career Guidance and College counselling starts in this Grade, students have talks designed to focus their attention on the choices they will have to make. They will be given tools to assist them in discovering their potential in future studies and career paths.
Grade 11
In Grade 11, students are introduced to the different university options or opportunities around the world – Asia, Australia-New Zealand, Canada, Europe, UK, US – so they develop an appreciation of the global options available. University representative visits and mentor group meetings allow them to explore University and career links. Students will then be prepared for making applications with reference to both institutions and the subjects they might wish to study. Workshops, university visits and interviews all contribute to making the student feel secure in the process.
Grade 12
Advice to students is now increasingly tailored to the individual, their hopes and aspirations. Advisory sessions, workshops, mock interviews, application preparation and feedback, and guidance on the enrollment process, maximise the student’s presentation skills.
SIS continues to support the student on graduation by providing transcripts or other documentation to support university entry, gap year or national service activities. We are proud of the track record of our students who regularly are accepted by some of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions. You can find a list here
Personal Counselling
The Upper School years can be a time when students feel particularly under stress as they rapidly develop both academically and emotionally. The Upper School counsellor is there to help with emotional issues and mental well-being as well as guide the student through their significant educational choices.
The counsellor is regularly available and accessible to students experiencing emotional concerns, work pressures, or other issues in the School, and can recommend further counselling or professional support where necessary.
