Norra Latin on awards shortlist
In exciting news for SIS, the renovation of Norra Latin has been shortlisted in the Construction of the Year Awards sponsored by trade publication Byggindustrin. Norra Latin is one of just three candidates shortlisted in the Renovation of the Year category.
In announcing the shortlist in Byggindustrin, the magazine remarked on how ambitious the project had been, restoring a 142-year-old building to its original function in time for the start of school in the same year while making large investments in connection with ventilation, energy efficiency, noise abatement and other aspects. It then posed the question how, just eight months after starting, the school’s teachers were able to welcome the students who ran into their new school on August 15, 2023. ‘How did the impossible became possible?’ it asked.
Welcoming the news the newly appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees (Stockholm International School is a not-for-profit organisation), Hans Skeppner commented:
‘The Norra Latin project is a signal of our commitment to the Stockholm region and the families who come here to live and work. Demand for international schooling in the region is only likely to increase, and SIS is delighted to add a premium location in the heart of the city, that offers the best possible school environment for our families.
‘I know all our teachers and other staff have worked remarkably hard to make this happen in such a short period of time, and I think that is a statement of our dedication to our students. Our landlord, consultants, and contractors have also pulled out all the stops to make this happen. To all of them, the board offers its heartfelt thanks.’
Marisa León, the Director of SIS, concurred with that view and is immensely appreciative of the support she has received from the board. ‘I’m not sure we can believe just how well it has turned out, with Norra Latin opening up an exciting new chapter for the School and the city we are proud to be part of.’
She went on: ‘This award nomination is a testament to the work of all our staff. Collectively, they stepped up to the plate and embraced the speed of the transition with positivity and enthusiasm, relocating between one building and another in just a few short summer weeks. Whether we emerge with the award or not, when we see the delight on our students’ faces and witness their enjoyment of the new premises, we feel we are all winners.’
