A commitment to learning and pastoral care
SEPTEMBER 2024
The Middle School at Stockholm International School (SIS) continues to grow within its new Norra Latin campus. To uphold our commitment to academic excellence alongside our dedication to pastoral care, SIS this year created a new post of Middle School Vice Principal. Bradley Lister, who over his years at SIS has served in a number of positions, was appointed to this vital role. He brings a profound commitment to fostering student well-being and a strong community spirit.
Bradley Lister’s journey into education reflects a passion for people and a commitment to making a meaningful difference. Originally from the north of England, he holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering with Business from Manchester University. Although he began his career in engineering, his path took a turn when he joined the Teach First program, which placed him in schools serving challenging communities in the UK. There, Bradley discovered a calling that went beyond a temporary career shift. “Working with students and seeing the impact of education firsthand opened my eyes to a new purpose,” he explains. His passion for education deepened through collaborations with organizations such as McKinsey and HSBC, and he has remained devoted to the field ever since.
In 2016, Bradley relocated to Stockholm, where he found a true sense of home with his wife and daughter. Since joining the SIS community, he has served in a variety of roles—Mathematics Teacher, MYP Coordinator, and Head of Learning—each allowing him to expand his leadership in both academic and pastoral areas. As the new Vice Principal, Bradley’s role extends far beyond administrative duties; it encompasses a deep-seated responsibility for student welfare, staff support, and community cohesion.
Pastoral care is at the heart of Bradley’s approach. He is not just a leader behind the scenes; he is a visible and approachable figure within the school. His regular interactions with students and staff enable him to stay attuned to the daily rhythms and needs of the school community. Whether addressing minor disciplinary matters, guiding students through personal challenges, or simply being a supportive presence, Bradley prioritizes fostering a safe and nurturing environment. He also collaborates closely with counsellors and teachers to develop constructive responses to emerging issues, ensuring that the School’s approach to student well-being is proactive and responsive.
Central to Bradley’s pastoral mission is the advisory program. “This year, I am focused on enhancing the advisory program to be more flexible and tailored to our students’ evolving needs,” he notes. By working alongside counsellors, grade-level leaders, and advisors, he aims to create a program that addresses social and emotional learning while also adapting to current issues, such as social media influences. This holistic vision seeks to equip students with the skills and resilience they need to thrive both in and outside of the classroom.
Bradley’s leadership also involves empowering the Middle School staff through professional development. He supports teachers and teaching assistants by offering guidance, resources, and mentorship to help them excel in their roles. His commitment extends to stepping in as Acting Principal when needed, further demonstrating his dedication to the well-being and success of the SIS community.
Reflecting on his motivations, Bradley shares, “Education is not just about academic achievement; it’s about shaping futures and building a community where everyone feels valued.” His work embodies this belief, as he strives to create an environment where respect, responsibility, and growth are shared values that unite the entire school.
