“Let’s talk about talking. From a language of exclusion to a language of inclusion”
This lecture is a fascinating dive into thinking about how and why we say what we say. Or in other words, a closer look at the underlying effect of the language we use to describe the world.
It’s a language guide for the public debate on racism, diversity and discrimination. What “may” one say? What is meant by white privilege? Is “black” a bad word and why is “coloured” a problematic term? How should we understand and attack the concept of “structural racism”? What do we mean when we say racialised and why is it important to talk about skin colour in anti-racism?
Barakat’s previous clients include Microsoft, SVT, Amnesty International, Rädda Barnen, The Swedish Film Institute and more.
