Migration Minister meets SIS families in fact-finding visit
Sweden wants more global talent to come work here. The Migration Minister visited SIS to hear first hand from parents about the positives and negatives of their experience in moving to the country.
In recent years, Sweden has regularly reported shortages in key skill sectors that are vital to the country’s ambition to grow as a high-tech, high-skill powerhouse of the Nordic countries. Sweden has turned to the international job market to meet this demand, and to recruit the very best global talent in research, business, and technology – and schools like Stockholm International School have a vital role to play in making that happen.
The Minister for Migration, Johan Forssell, and members of his team visited Norra Latin in early February, to see first-hand how SIS plays a vital role in supporting families who come to work in Sweden.
The group were welcomed to Norra Latin by Deputy Director, David Osler, and other members of the SIS leadership team and Board of Trustees. The minister saw our vibrant community of over 60 nationalities working together, playing together, and creating a vibrant global community in the heart of the nation’s capital.
To conclude the visit, Johan Forssell met with a group of SIS parents. They impressed upon the minister how education is a vital consideration when deciding to move to a new country. Highlighting our high standards and globally recognised curriculum of IB Programmes, they explained how SIS gave them the reassurance they needed that their children could thrive in Stockholm.
And Stockholm in turn can feel reassured that SIS is here to support the region’s employers and institutions in recruiting the very best global talent to fulfil its economic agenda.
