New year, new Chair
JANUARY 1, 2024
SIS starts the new year with a new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Existing Board member Hans Skeppner will take up the baton passed to him by outgoing Chair Jahn Henry Lövaas. Hans was the unanimous choice of the Board at its meeting in November.
Hans has served on the SIS Board since 2021. He brings extensive experience of international mobility and education having served for many years as Chair of the Board of the International School of Brussels (ISB). His three daughters attended ISB from Kindergarten to graduation.
Hans is looking forward to meeting with more members of our vibrant community and there will be several opportunities to meet with him and find out more about him in the coming months.
At the same meeting the Board decided to create the position of Vice Chair, and Annika Vikhult was unanimously elected to the role. Annika will now support the Chair, primarily in the internal work of the Board, and in ongoing contacts with local and national government. Additionally, trustee Judith Gough assumed the role of Child Protection Board Representative, and Philip McCrea became Chair of the merged Advancement and Succession Committee.
Jahn Henry Lövaas had informed the Board of his intention to step down earlier in the year. With the School reaching a milestone by securing a long-term lease on Norra Latin, Jahn Henry decided the time was right to step aside in order to make room for a new generation to take the School forward.
Jahn Henry’s contribution was recognised by SIS Director, Marisa León. In a statement she said:
Jahn Henry, a former parent at SIS, has served on the Board since 2007. During his time at the School it has developed and grown into the leading international school that we are today. As one of two Board representatives on the Future Campus Task Force, his determination and wise counsel enabled us to finally secure new campus facilities at Norra Latin. I have appreciated his support for me in my role and his dedication to our School.
At the November Board meeting, Jahn Henry reflected on the journey SIS has been on and expressed that:
“Now that we have moved into Norra Latin and can look forward to the next 25 years in our two wonderful campus locations, it is time for me to hand over to someone else. I am confident that Hans, together with the whole Board and the Director, will do an excellent job in steering SIS into the future”.
