Andrea Kent
Andrea Kent brings a unique perspective to the learning environment at Stockholm International School, shaped by a career at the intersection of healthcare, research, and education. Beginning at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she spent over a decade as a critical care nurse specializing in pediatric and cardiac intensive care, caring for some of the most critically ill children in the world. Throughout her tenure at leading medical institutions, including Children’s National Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Atlanta and Geisinger Medical Center, Andrea played a key role in pioneering and implementing evidence-based practices that transformed patient outcomes. Her work extended beyond bedside care, contributing to global interdisciplinary research collaborations aimed at advancing pediatric medicine. Supporting not only her patients but also their families, she became deeply invested in holistic child development—an approach she now carries into the classroom.
Transitioning into education, Andrea is now a PYP Music Assistant. She is committed to fostering inclusive, inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity and creativity. Drawing from her scientific background and lifelong passion for music, she designs engaging, hands-on lessons that connect rhythm, movement, and storytelling, helping students explore interdisciplinary connections and express themselves through music. Her experience in pediatric intensive care has strengthened her dedication to caring for the whole student, recognizing the importance of cognitive, emotional, and physical development in the classroom.
Andrea’s love for music began at the age of five when she first started playing the piano, and she continued her formal piano studies through high school. Despite earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology, she remained actively involved in the music program at the University of Maryland throughout her undergraduate studies. Today, music and travel remain deeply intertwined in her life. Through her husband’s career as a professional musician, she has had the incredible honour of traveling the world with their three children, exposing them to diverse cultures and experiences through music and global exploration.
Currently enrolled in the International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (IPGCE) program, Andrea is dedicated to deepening her expertise as an educator. She is particularly interested in enhancing inclusive practices for neurodiverse students and exploring the role of physical learning spaces in fostering student engagement. Her participation in the International Teacher Exchange Consortium (ITEC) program further reflects her commitment to global collaboration and lifelong learning.
Her dedication to education, music, and cultural exploration, together with her professional and personal passion for learning, inspires and supports young learners on their educational journeys.
