Evi Markou
Evi joined the Student Support Department in 2016 as a Learning Support Teacher for Middle School.
She is passionate about matters of diversity, inclusion, equity in education and intercultural education, areas in which she specialised during her studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology of Education from the UCL Institute of Education, an MA in Culture, Language and Identity in Education from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a PG Certificate in Inclusion and Special Educational Needs from Birmingham University. Her Bachelor Degree (Hons) was in Pedagogy and Philosophy.
Before joining SIS, Evi taught at universities in the UK and Greece, particularly on teacher-training courses (BA and MA). She has participated in research projects on inclusive policies and intercultural, migrant, and refugee education and has produced teacher-training material in these areas.
Switching from academia to school teaching has been an exciting move that challenges her to put theory into practice, to experience education through students’ voices and to collaborate with colleagues to remove barriers to learning.
Teamwork is at the heart of her professional values. She has been an enthusiastic volunteer for community work and for promoting social justice for underprivileged groups. She was also a Sea Scout troop leader. She likes swimming, ice skating and all types of crafts.
Evi comes from Greece and is currently living in Stockholm with her husband, their daughter and dog.
