Norra Latin building entrance

New era at SIS

JULY 2023

The new SIS campus at Norra Latin will see students pass through its welcoming doors for the first time as the new academic year begins this August.

Since January of this year, contractors have been working to rapidly transform what was a conference centre into a school fit for 21st century learning. The results promise to be outstanding, offering some of the most characterful learning spaces right in the heart of the city.

The conversion has seen building contractors, architects, and architectural historians work with SIS to deliver classrooms and facilities that meet all the standards required of a modern school, while recognising and preserving the essential cultural heritage of the building. Norra Latin will be home to the Middle and Upper School students at SIS, as well as providing other learning and recreational spaces that will serve the whole School. Primary School students will remain in the Johannesgatan building of SIS which will undergo a programme of refurbishment.

The 25-year lease which SIS has secured on the building means the School can plan with confidence for its next phase of development as it continues with its mission to support global mobility and growth and talent development in the Stockholm region.

In truth, it is not entirely accurate to say that students will enter the building for the first time – Norra Latin was actually purpose-built as a school in the 1880s, and was one of the most progressive schools in Sweden at the time. In that respect, SIS is reviving its contribution to the city, and maintaining its innovative heritage and reputation for excellence.
