SIS to enter FIRST LEGO League Challenge

SIS will be an enthusiastic participant in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge in the Scandanavia region next academic year, and building our team to compete starts now!

The 2022 Challenge has participants undertake a research project to identify real-world problems that are relevant to their age. Teams of students then engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.

The details of this year’s assignment will be announced on September 17. Participants will develop innovative solutions to problems and share their solutions, and design and program a LEGO SPIKE Prime or MINDSTORMS robot. The team has eight weeks before the whole project is presented in the local tournament.

SIS will field a team of 12 students representing SIS (from Grade 4 to Grade 9). They will meet and work on the project once a week between 15:30 and 17:00 from September to November 2022 (day yet to be decided).

Head of Technology at SIS, Sandra Loureiro, is excited by the opportunity this gives the students: ‘We made the decision to participate in order to continue our efforts and vision to embed Makerspace learning throughout the school, as well as continue the development of our Learning Commons. Thanks to another grant from the SIS Spirit Fund, which allowed us to get the Makerspaces off the ground in the first place, we will be able to add to our resources so we can prepare our students to compete in the robotics category too.’
